The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning. Introduced in 2016, the scheme highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education. See the winning teams below.

The National Software Academy Team works collaboratively with numerous industry partners to deliver an innovative Project-based Learning approach and many meaningful opportunities for student-industry interaction. This provides a distinctive student experience that enhances the employability of students, as they build a portfolio of client-facing projects to showcase their skills.

As ‘Agents for the Common Good’ we transformed the learning for our Physiotherapy students through a four-way collaboration with community partners, health service users, students and academics. This partnership impacted positively on the health of thousands of services users in Greater Glasgow, and metamorphosed all partners beyond instrumental commitments towards empowering experiences.

Sync the City is a very successful pedagogical tool to teach students digital business, innovation and entrepreneurship before they graduate, working alongside participants from tech sector organisations. Students engage in an intense experience, learn new skills, and put into practice many of the theoretical concepts learned during their degrees.

Our Assessment Centre Experience (ACE) is a collaboration between key stakeholders which supports students who may not have the social and cultural capital to navigate recruitment processes. Delivered via embedded modules in the curriculum to over 3,000 students from across nine academic schools, it has a positive impact on employability.

MetMUnch is a global award-winning, student-led social enterprise based at Manchester Metropolitan University. At its heart is a passion for sustainable and nutritious food – and sharing that passion with students, staff, local businesses and communities. MetMUnch run a range of sessions, from on-the-spot nutritional advice, to leading on fun, interactive activities and science focussed workshops.

The sustainability team has placed Education for Sustainability at the core of programme design, delivery, informal and subliminal curricula. Hundreds of staff and students each year take part in workshops and activities which enable them to reflect on their role in society both now and in the future.

Interprofessional collaboration between the Centre for Learning and Teaching and the Academic Quality and Development Unit manifests in the identification, harvesting and dissemination of good practices in learning, teaching and assessment, grounded in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Dissemination is through an online repository and joint delivery of professional development and international conferences.

The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre (QMLAC) is a long-term collaboration between staff, students, volunteer barristers and solicitors and our local community. This clinical legal education initiative mixes the theory of law with the practice of client and community work, in a mechanism that enables a maximum output for the inputted resource.

The Academic Enhancement and Attainment Team deliver a cross-university Academic Enhancement Model working to eliminate awarding gaps and improve student experience, collaborating with colleagues and students across the University. The team deploy co-design, arts practice-led appreciative enquiry approaches and decolonising expertise to all aspects of their enhancement work.

University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Class in a Bag Team (CIAB) demonstrates what can be achieved when academics and students collaborate as development partners. CIAB is a transformational dementia learning experience delivered by 2,400 student nurses to over 10,000 school children. It is an engaging and innovative way to build professional knowledge, skills and citizenship with student nurses.
