The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and celebrates collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning. Each award will recognise a team which has enabled a change in practice for colleagues and/or students at an institutional or discipline level.
In order to participate in CATE, institutions must be Advance HE UK Full or Affiliate members.
Institutional nominations are made via the Advance HE VLE. If you are a UK Advance HE member institution (Full or Affiliate member) and have not received details of the nomination process, please contact the Awards team for further information (email@example.com).

The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises, rewards and celebrates collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning. Introduced in 2016, the scheme highlights the key role that teamwork plays in higher education. Each award will recognise a team which has enabled a change in practice for colleagues and/or students at an institutional or discipline level.
All UK higher education providers, who are Full or Associate members of Advance HE, may nominate one team for a CATE Award. The maximum size allowed for a CATE team is 15 members, including the Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader.

In 2024, institutional nominations will be made via a new application, Advance HE’s Survey Monkey Apply (SMA). If you are a UK Advance HE member institution (Full or Affiliate member) and have not received details of the nomination process, please contact the Awards team for further information (firstname.lastname@example.org).
CATE nominations close at 12:00 noon (GMT) on Wednesday 6th March 2024.
CATE Roadshows 2024
Facilitated by the CATE-Net Co-ordination Group and the Advance HE Awards Team, these virtual roadshows will offer an overview of the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) and guidance on the application process for those interested in applying in 2024. All will include a brief introduction to CATE and an overview of the professional and institutional benefits. The CATE application process will be outlined and there will be practical guidance and suggestions from previous CATE winners, plus time for questions and answers.
All three roadshows will be identical (however the third roadshow is aimed at nominations for 2025 and beyond).
