Calibration of Academic Standards

We are investigating the feasibility, viability, portability and sustainability of different approaches as models for the development and delivery of subject-based calibration of academic standards.

The Degree Standards project is exploring the use of calibration through two main approaches:

  • Regional consortium of higher education providers – running subject-specific professional development courses linked with calibration activities for particular subject communities.
  • Partnership model with professional bodies or subject associations – establishing a number of exemplar disciplines whose case studies and/or toolkits can be showcased for other subject communities to emulate.

The anticipated impact of these approaches to developing calibration will be the establishment of communities of practice around degree standards and increased comparability of academic standards across subject communities.
