Collaboration between the Academic Quality and Development Unit and the Centre for Learning and Teaching at Edge Hill University

Interprofessional collaboration between the Centre for Learning and Teaching and the Academic Quality and Development Unit manifests in the identification, harvesting and dissemination of good practices in learning, teaching and assessment, grounded in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Dissemination is through an online repository and joint delivery of professional development and international conferences.

Our collaboration is between academics from the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) and the Academic Quality and Development Unit (AQDU) professionals and administrators. Together we are focused on enhancement of the curriculum and students’ learning experiences, to impact upon success and positive outcomes for all. We are proud to publicly exemplify academics and professional services in concert, all working to the values of the UKPSF. This is achieved principally through our joint leadership on deployment of the Edge Hill University Taught Degrees Framework, where the curriculum design 'lenses' are derived from the research literature related to evidence and effectiveness. Our partnership working results in the University’s best teaching, learning, assessment and organisation and management practices.

These are identified deliberately and harvested through Quality Assurance systems. Examples are actively disseminated in the CLT and AQDU professional development series events. These are grounded in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in terms of influencing the application and integration of knowledge and include joint working on an annual international conference, which is in its 23rd iteration. This harvesting of good practices from within, alongside our collection of examples from scholarship around the world, has also resulted in the design and realisation of the University’s heavily used, searchable, online repository of examples, guidance and innovations.

This collaboration is underpinned by our shared commitment to a positive climate for learning and development which is devoid of any negativity that is precipitated by silos and divisions between academics and service areas. Our collaboration extends to drawing the owners of the University’s and sector’s leading practices, including those from our Visiting Scholars scheme, into a shared endeavour of celebration and sharing of successes. We believe that this goes beyond the rhetoric often associated with ‘collegiality’ and ‘interprofessional collaboration’ and is a palpable, established, vibrant example of quality management and enhancement collaboration in action.
