The department has revised, with central College HR, how they advertise posts to ensure gender neutrality; and to highlight opportunities for collaboration and the supportive environment. They have a commitment to ensure applications include female candidates – an approach that has considerably improved the pool since 2013. Search committees are formed before advertising positions to look for appropriately qualified female applicants and encourage them to apply. This approach, is already having impacts and is attracting well-qualified female applicants. Of total applicants for recent academic positions, while only 10% were female, 33% of appointments were female.
