Graduate employability

Many groups are underrepresented in the general workforce and key professions. Universities and colleges can work to improve employability for all graduates.

HEIs provide a range of services and initiatives to improve student employability. Career guidance, work placements and mentoring schemes can all help to increase students’ chances of future employment.

A range of specific initiatives can help improve employment opportunities. For example, encouraging employers to provide positive support and action in meeting the needs of students as they progress to employment. This is often the outcome of effective communication, joint work on programme design and delivery, and effective staff development on equality issues for employers, work placement providers, etc.
