In September 2010 the Hospitality Leisure Sport and Tourism (HLST) Subject Network held a workshop on academic integrity in collaboration with the Academy JISC Academic Integrity Service.
This position paper provides the background to and rationale for this workshop and describes key concerns and issues that emerged from the event. It also highlights particular problems discussed by participants at the workshop which are encountered in relation to the development and use of policies for student plagiarism and outlines possible solutions to these that were offered. The paper concludes by emphasising two key emerging and related themes: the importance of staff engagement and development; and the need to work to achieve consistency in managing academic misconduct cases by following established procedures.
