This study employs a survey approach to researching first year student experiences of 'belonging' within the Business School of a London post-1992 university. A questionnaire was drawn up informed by Goodenow's (1993) instrument for measuring sense of belonging and the Australian Survey of Student Engagement questions relating to student belonging and engagement. The survey was conducted with first year first semester student in 2012/13. A sample of over 300students completed the questionnaire which also collected a range of biographical data and items relating to accommodation paid work SU engagement extra curricula activities social media and travel.
