Analysis of the Learning and Teaching Strategies 2011/12 to 2013/14 in Wales

In 2010 the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) invited higher education institutions to submit learning and teaching strategies for the period 2011/12 to 2013/14. Previously institutions had submitted strategies for the periods 2004/05 to 2006/07 and for 2007/08 to 2009/10 (HEA 2008). A key difference in the 2010 invitation was to allow institutions if they so wished to submit joint learning and teaching and widening access strategies; previously there had been separate submission of these strategies. This analysis is of strategies submitted by all Welsh institutions to HEFCW apart from the Open University in Wales; however reference has been made to the Open University Futures Wales 2011/12-2012/13 document. The analysis also takes account of revisions made by institutions following initial review by HEFCW. Prior to the writing of the analysis a template for the analysis was provided to HEFCW and the Welsh HE sector for comment. Very few amendments were requested indicating to the authors that there was general support for the thematic headings.
