Assessment Symposium Encouraging students to close the feedback loop through iterations of feedback, reflection and dialogue

A presentation by Dr Carl Nelson,  Nottingham Trent University, from the Advance HE Assessment Symposium held on 24 October 2019.

Encouraging students to close the feedback loop through iterations of feedback, reflection and dialogue

Teaching staff spend a substantial amount of time preparing feedback, but unfortunately our students often spend considerably less time using this feedback for its intended purpose: to improve their performance in subsequent assessments. In this presentation, we will share our experiences of encouraging 2nd year bioscience students to actively engage with formative feedback, through iterations of reflection, dialogue and further feedback. We will discuss how this was able to enhance their learning and achievement and shape student perceptions of the potential for formative feedback to transform their performance.
