Assessment Symposium Using blogposts for peer to peer learning and summative assessment

A presentation by Dr Rachel Shanks,  University of Aberdeen, from the Advance HE Assessment Symposium held on 24 October 2019.

Using blogposts for peer to peer learning and summative assessment

This presentation will show how a Blog tool in a virtual learning environment can be used for peer learning and summative assessment. By breaking down larger pieces of assessed work into shorter blogposts, students who had been out of education for several years were able to gain confidence through writing shorter pieces of work. By providing peer feedback they were able to scrutinise their own work afterwards. This method of assessment also reduced the likelihood of students overlooking a required part of an assignment.
