Aurora participant case study: Dr Mary Richards - Brunel University of London

Dr Mary Richards

Aurora provided a great opportunity to increase my awareness of the larger community of women leading institutions and organisations both within and beyond the higher education sectors. The inspirational women invited to tell their stories as part of the programme provided insights into the wide range of roles and challenges they have successfully navigated. The regular sessions provided broad stroke introductions to particular styles and approaches to leadership. Most useful to me were the very practical action learning sets, an approach that has much in common with the style of mediation practice with which I am familiar from my mediator experience at Brunel. Both experiences have been useful when it comes to supporting and developing others.

I have also been able to access and use the resources; both electronic and personal. The network of Aurora participants can be called upon via the mail listing to support and respond to issues that arise in any role you subsequently take on, so you are always connected to other women who may have experienced something similar to you.
