Creating ethical research: understanding ethics committee decision making

The aim of this project was to develop educational materials that can be used to teach the principles of ethical research. These principles are grounded in practice and consider such issues as: a) capacity and consent e.g. in relation to research with children people with learning disability brain injury or dementia; b) costs/benefits to society; c) doing no harm; d) confidentiality and ; e) financial rewards. These issues are presented as a series of scenarios derived from research with ethics committees a sample of anonymised real applications and ethical research literature.
