Education for sustainable development and global citizenship (ESD/GC): Good practice case studies in teacher education

These case studies of good practice in Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESD/GC) has been compiled by the HEA in collaboration with members of the steering group of the Teacher Education for Equity and Sustainability Network (TEESNet) – a UK wide network of educators concerned to embed ESD/GC in teacher education.

The case studies provide an overview of three important characteristics of ESD/GC: an holistic and collaborative view of the issues including questioning subject boundaries and using an approach that interconnects the cognitive and emotional; criticality - using multiple perspectives and seeing approaches and issues as contested; and ESD/GC as both transformative and creative.

The case studies are organised around four themes: initial teacher education; professional development; institutional change; and policy.
