Following the Leader? Social Media and Social Networks in British Higher Education

This report describes findings and recommendations from a Leadership Foundation for Higher Education-funded project to apply social network analysis methodologies to the study of higher education institutions on Twitter. It aimed to study the extent to which cross-institution communities of practice can be identified in social media networks and to examine the extent to which hierarchies imposed by rankings influence the formation of connections on Twitter.
