Project lead: Sue Hodges, Director of Library and Archive Services
The project will pilot and review the Human Performance Technology (HPT) methodology for improving efficiency and effectiveness in a Higher Education setting. The tool incoporates three factors: Performance, Profile and Process. Aspects of the methodolgy are similar to those seen in methods such as Lean Thinking but no single tool has pulled the three components into one single methodology in a HE setting. The project will fully explore the HPT model and then pilot a modified version using an active collaboration between the Library Services in Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities. In particular the project will look at the development and delivery of processes and services linked to the delivery of on-line reading lists and the issues, skills and cultural change needed on both the academic and library sides.
The project team will aim to deliver the project in a way which enables an understanding of the potential in different HE service environments through direct engagement with additional service teams. The methodology has been very successfully deployed in the private and public sectors internationally and this project will explore its likely success in a UK setting. The project will contribute to an established collaboration between the Universities under their Strategic Alliance and their stated aim “to continually develop the strong and close working partnership between the two institutions which enables us to operate more effectively and efficiently than as entirely separate institutions, and supports our drive to be internationally excellent in specified areas of activity”.
