Kazakhstan Leadership Development Programmes

Background: In 2014 we were asked to deliver Leadership Development programmes for Kazakhstan Rectors and senior leaders from public and private universities, trustees, Ministry officials and vice-rectors.

Following the success of these activities, in 2015 and again in 2016, we were commissioned and delivered two leadership development programmes, each for 100 participants from 11 Kazakh Universities. The participants were involved in the State Programme of Industrial and Innovative Development (SPIID-2 – which runs from 2015-2019).

Programme: The 2015 and 2016 programmes were specifically designed to assist participants to develop their understanding and capacity to be an innovate leader of:

  • Higher education research
  • Teaching and learning
  • An entrepreneurial and adaptive/resilient university

Outcomes of our work with Kazakhstan include:

  • Enabling universities to function effectively as a more autonomous entity, within a sound governance framework
  • Building capacity for accountability and developing appropriate relationships with the Kazakhstan Ministry of Education and Science and with various stakeholders as more academic freedom is granted to universities by the Ministry.
