learning through storytelling

Refers to a process in which learning is structured around a narrative or story as a means of sense-making.

There are a variety of approaches to learning through storytelling including:

  • narrative pedagogy which encourages teachers and students to share stories and interpret experiences;
  • narrative-centred learning environments which situate learners within a story-world (sometimes using virtual or augmented reality) in which they participate in an unfolding story;
  • practomime a blend of role play and pretend play;
  • some MOOCs use a story as the basis for the learning experience.
