Measuring student engagement: Opportunities and challenges

This collaborative workshop explores how measures of student engagement can be effectively applied in UK higher education drawing on examples from King's College London. Activities will draw out experiences of the impact of 'student satisfaction' and the challenges and opportunities of more meaningful 'student engagement'. Active small group discussions will be critically focussed on the ways in which survey measures can develop more nuanced approaches to engagement fostering students' critical reflection on their own learning and their relationship with their institution alongside evaluations of institutional experience. Discussion will be framed by evidence from on-going initiatives and international comparative research.
