NET2019 - Everywhere and nowhere: Identifying, supporting and enabling work-based learning for the future workforce

The recent introduction of the Nursing Associate role in England and the UK-wide apprenticeship levy, have presented a new opportunity to further develop the clinical workplace as a learning environment for employees. This paper reports on an 18-month project undertaken in London that explored the experience of work-based learning (WBL) from the perspective of clinical educators, healthcare managers and learners, with the aim of identifying the scope and possibilities for WBL in the clinical environment. The results are relevant to any healthcare education communities internationally that engage with work-based learning.
