Once upon a course design…: An evaluation of course design using students as partners and a toolkit of creative co-design exercises

This report is designed as a resource for those HE institutions currently considering undertaking course or module design particularly with students as partners and offers a toolkit of creative and innovative course design exercises that can be adapted and utilised for individual projects. AUB has as its core values the desire to be a university that is ‘Innovative. Collaborative. Connected’ (Strategic Plan 2014-1019). Having students as an integral part of the course design process embraces each of these values and what follows is the story of the journey we – staff students and professionals – have undertaken together.

The report comprises an evaluation of the co-design process informed by the partnership framework; a workflow diagram that illustrates this process; and supporting examples from a digital archive of the project to highlight the work undertaken. Chapter One frames the starting points of the project and how the framework has informed AUB's planning and thinking. Chapter Two dissects the values that underpin the framework and how important these values are for course design.  Chapter Three outlines and evaluates the processes involved from the planning stages to submission of Stage One validation documents. The epilogue collates AUB's final thoughts for consideration and identifies next steps.
