Pedagogies of Internationalisation: mapping pedagogic practices for and with international students

This project is part of the 2020 Good Practice Grants, which helped Advance HE members to develop and share innovative practice.

The team at Manchester University systematically reviewed empirical journal articles on specific pedagogical practices for and with international students in the UK from 2013-2019.

Forty-nine studies met the inclusion criteria, and 12 distinct categories were identified, with 26 specific practices. The team conducted 45 semi-structured online interviews with academic staff with current teaching roles at a range of UK institutions, including universities from across the sector and country, targeting a varied profile of staff across disciplines.

The team drew on the findings from the literature review and the interviews to develop a collaborative website comprising case studies of teaching practices for and with international students. On this basis, they developed a Resource Pack for Advance HE.
