The portfolio as a learning tool in Languages: an effective means of embedding good learning practice or palliative for languages under threat?

Portfolios have been seen as a means of encouraging autonomous language learning within languages for a number of years and have been developed through the work of the ‘Translang’ project’ and through Language Centres across the country. They have been heralded as a means of countering reduced contact hours developing learning skills and encouraging reflective learning strategies.
