Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey 2022

The Advance HE Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) is the largest survey of its kind and this year was the largest survey of taught postgraduate students since 2018 due to the disruption caused by Covid-19.

Nearly 80,000 taught postgraduate students from across 91 higher education institutions took part in the survey, which allows taught postgraduate students to give feedback about learning, teaching and other aspects of their courses, informing enhancement across the sector. The general theme from the survey was of satisfaction returning to pre-pandemic levels following a number of years when the taught postgraduate experience had declined across the UK and EU.

Key findings from the survey include:

  • 82% of postgraduate taught students (PGTs) agreed they were satisfied with their course, in-line with pre-pandemic levels of student satisfaction.

  • 88.1% of students satisfied with access to library, IT and subject-specific resources, again recovering to pre-pandemic levels.

  • 22.6% of PGTs stated they had received teaching mostly or completely online in 2022, despite expecting in-person teaching, and this cohort continued to experience issues with the use of technology and reduced contact with peers and staff.

The 2022 PTES report is available to all and can be accessed below.
