The public sector equality duty: specific duties for Scotland (revised)

The Equality Act 2010 introduced a public sector equality duty, which higher education institutions, colleges and the Scottish Funding Council have to meet. The duty is underpinned by specific duties. In Scotland these commenced on 27 May 2012.

This revised briefing provides details of the general duty and the specific duties for Scotland, and highlights issues for institutions to consider when developing their approaches to meeting the requirements

It should be read in conjunction with Equality Challenge Unit’s (ECU) briefing Equality Act 2010: implications for colleges and HEIs (see further resources in the briefing).

The checklist should be read in conjunction with the revised specific duties for Scotland briefing, as it provides full guidance and examples from institutions’ 2013 and 2015 reports.
