Reflective Blogs in the Classroom: Online Journals Formative Assessment and Collaborative Learning

In undergraduate course specifications and teaching and learning guides a great deal of emphasis is placed on formative assessment and collaborative learning. However these important dimensions of learning are often not apparent to many students who frequently have no opportunities for receiving feedback on work in progress and who usually work alone on essays and other assignments. Feedback usually comes too late after a piece of work has been given its final mark.
