This session will describe a study about engagement with primary literature in final year undergraduate students. I measured perceptions around reading and interpreting scientific research articles at the start and end of the academic year. I will present the results of this study and explain my approach to increase student confidence in engaging with the primary literature. I will describe teaching sessions that I have designed which treat the students as collaborators and put them in the driving seat. Finally, I will consider how to translate authentic learning experiences into authentic assessment.
