The HEA has recently published a synthesis of US literature relating to the retention progression completion and attainment of black and minority ethnic (BME) students in HE. This synthesis written by Dr Jacqueline Stevenson and Pauline Whelan Leeds Metropolitan University seeks to evidence the data relating to the retention progression completion and attainment of ethnic minority undergraduate students in the US and in doing so draw out implications for UK stakeholders.
The synthesis draws primarily on data from the last decade and purposefully samples from literature relating to diverse ethnic groups and different types of educational institution. Efforts have been made to provide a robust synthesis of US literature relating to the retention progress completion and attainment of ethnic minority undergraduate students by drawing on a wide range of literature sources including national studies peer-reviewed reports US statistical data relating to population rates and academic journal articles.
