Teaching and Learning Conference 2019: Excellence without inclusivity is not excellence

Excellence in teaching is a key priority for many institutions and rightly so. However I will argue that without an outstanding student experience which is truly inclusive an institution cannot claim their teaching is excellent. Putting students at the heart of teaching excellence is in my view the best route to ensuring provision and the experience is inclusive. I will highlight the inherent benefits of an inclusive curriculum both to institutions but more importantly to students. From an induction which is warm and welcoming through the student lifecycle to ensuring a diverse range of students succeed. Drawing upon my experience as Student Association President at the University of Law an institution which places the greatest emphasis on its teaching and on my experience as a Student Panellist for the Teaching Excellence Framework I will argue inclusivity is key.
