Women's Sense of Belonging in Computer Science Education

This project is part of the 2020 Good Practice Grants, which helped Advance HE members to develop and share innovative practice.

Building on existing literature and prior work, a team from Lancaster University aimed to understand and envision a women’s sense of belonging in Computing, and uncover good practice initiatives for encouraging wider participation in the discipline. To achieve this goal, the team conducted three studies utilising quantitative and qualitative research methods consisting of a survey of female A-level Computer Science students, a survey open to all staff and students at Lancaster University, and focus groups involving women undergraduate and postgraduate Computer Science students at Lancaster University.
