The process of becoming a Health Care professional requires more than just the learning of facts and theories. Emotional awareness kindness and sensitivity towards others lie at the heart of relational caring and ways to develop these aspects of practice are required. However in nurse education it has been suggested that there is a focus on the scientific model with less attention being paid to the emotional aspects of Nursing practice. I share the practicalities of this approach including the challenges to its implementation and how these were overcome.
