With almost every aspect of the 20-21 academic year being uncertain the one aspect we can be sure of is that transitioning to the ‘new normal’ is going to require transformation at a scale and pace rarely seen before. Our response to this environment within 19-20 has been our rapid, generative Socially Distanced Campuses and Education project, curated teaching resources, a community of practice and our series of webinars, all provided through Advance HE Connect. Our member benefits for 20-21 will speak directly to your contemporary challenges and support you in:

Covid-19 - Ensuring sustainability and readiness for the new normal
Members-only projects planned for 20-21 will focus on realising the learning from the Covid-19 emergency response and considering how institutions can reshape and redefine themselves in light of the changing world around them.
Connect Benefit Series
The Connect Benefit Series is open to all colleagues at Advance HE member institutions. The Series focusses on monthly themes designed to help our members develop resilience, to help institutions adapt to a new way of ‘business as usual’ within the transformed environment.
Each month there will be a suite of multiple benefit outputs including formats such as webinars, blogs/vlogs, Tweet chats, tool kits and guidance documents.

Tackling structural race inequality in higher education
Activities, discussions, tools and resources to support our members in understanding and addressing structural race inequalities in all aspects of higher education.
The activities in support of this member benefit have been divided into four strands:
- Understanding structural inequality: theory, evidence, data and storytelling
- Honest, brave and open conversations about race
- Decolonising identity
- Meeting the challenge: supporting senior leaders in conversation, change and accountability in addressing race
Student Partnerships in Assessment
Supporting the development of assessment models and practices within higher education institutions.
As the higher education sector continues to navigate through the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, our Student Partnerships in Assessment global member benefit initiative, launching in April and running through to June, aims to support Advance HE member institutions around the globe to engage in conversation about getting started with embedding student partnerships in assessment.

Collaborative Development Fund
Advance HE is dedicated to supporting the development of our members based on sector needs, and provides funding to help enable this. Previously, funding had been in the form of our Small Development Projects (SDPs), which were launched in 2004 and more recently, our Good Practice Grants.
For the 2020-21 member benefit year, funding will be available to our global membership base in the form of our Collaborative Development Fund, which aims to harness the knowledge, experience and innovative capabilities of our members in order to address current challenges within the HE sector.

Advance HE Connect
Share. Connect. Collaborate
Advance HE Connect is an online network exclusively for the HE sector that has facilitated sector-wide engagement during the Covid-19 pandemic, with individual log-ins increasing by 80% since lockdown. Members have been connecting with more than 21,000 users from 100 countries around the globe. This community platform is open to all those who work in HE and provides a space where the sector can share, connect and collaborate in one place.

Publications, projects and resources
Membership provides institutions with access to a wealth of exclusive reports, publications and resources across key HE themes, and the
latest thinking in leadership development, governance, organisation development, education and EDI. Our priority in this next year is to provide our members with key practical, solution-focused toolkits, frameworks, research and resources informed directly from the outcomes of our Covid-19 collaborative projects. In addition to we will also provide publications that transcend the current crisis, including:
- Equality in HE statistical reports
- Leading the Academy report
- Student Academic Experience report
- PRES, PTES and UKES reports.
Teaching excellence awards
At a time when teaching and teachers have to rapidly adapt, it’s important that we continue to celebrate the outstanding contribution to education that our colleagues make. The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS), now in its 20th year, and the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) showcase the impact of individuals and teams who teach or support learning in UK higher education, recognising their success and providing a platform to share the learning from their practice. Advance HE member institutions benefit from free access to these awards.

Athena SWAN

Being part of an internationally recognised gender equality initiative can help your institution meet its equality legislation requirements, as well as the requirements and expectations of some funders and research council.


Race Equality Charter (REC)
The Race Equality Charter package not only includes access to the accreditation process that can result in the award of the charter, it also includes a range of support to help institutions both enhance their practice
and achieve recognition for their commitment in this area.
This package evidences your institution’s commitment to equality and diversity, meeting your legal and regulatory obligations under equality legislation, as well as the requirements and expectations of some funders and research councils.


Teaching and learning accreditation
We accredit continuous professional development (CPD) programmes which are delivered by higher education providers both within the UK and internationally. Aligning professional development to the UKPSF. Advance HE have developed a range of support and benefits to improve accessibility and value for members.
Enhancements to equality charters services
In addition to the Charters themselves, Advance HE member institutions also benefit from enhancement services to the Charters that support applications, including:
- national events
- access to the Gender and Race equality good practice database
- videos, materials and guidance
- remote developmental reviews.
Student surveys
As our member institutions strive to develop sustainable solutions for how the student experience is configured and supported in the future, our surveys package will prove an essential tool in gaining insight on all aspects of student experience and engagement, as well as benchmarking.

Leadership Insights Library
Advance HE membership allows member organisations globally access to the Advance HE Leadership Insights Library.
