Advance HE welcomes new initiatives to protect degree standards

Responding to new initiatives to protect the value of UK degrees published today on behalf of the UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment (UKSCQA), Alison Johns, Advance HE CEO, said,

We welcome these initiatives and the guidance documents. The protection of standards and integrity of degree awards are vital components underpinning the outstanding reputation of the UK higher education system.

“As the guidance documents highlight, Advance HE has an important and ongoing contribution in the maintenance of degree standards through the training of external examiners.

To date, we have trained more than 2000 staff as external examiners. As a result of our programme, 39 institutions are rolling out training for their staff to become, or to become more effective, external examiners for other institutions.”
