Advance HE shares its development programmes, conferences and events portfolio for 202l-22

Advance HE has published its wide-range of development programmes, conferences and events for 2021-22, Re-imagining professional development for a new world.

Advance HE programmes, conferences and events portfolio for 2021-22 is shaped by feedback from the sector and is aligned with Advance HE’s purpose to help higher education and research ‘be the best it can be’ by supporting leadership development and effective governance, tackling inequalities and enhancing teaching and learning.

The offer is constructed around Advance HE’s strands of expertise – focusing on ‘what works’ and reflecting the challenges currently facing the sector and our members:

  • Race Equality – to support the improvement of the representation, progression and success of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff and students within higher education
  • Gender Equality – development designed to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing gender equality in higher education
  • Strategic Leadership – designed for those in senior or strategic roles, our strategic leadership portfolio can support the development of a strategic outlook and skill set to lead across organisational boundaries
  • Developing Leadership – for those new to leading or wanting to enhance their leadership practice
  • Teaching and Learning for Student Success in Higher Education – good practice and development to support the achievement of sustainable teaching excellence
  • Fostering Inclusion – development to support the understanding of common issues, inclusive support services, and accessible campus environments
  • Effective Governance – supporting governing bodies to aid with board effectiveness

Dr Celia Brigg, Associate Director – Conferences and Events, said, “We have worked very closely with the sector to develop this portfolio. Our focus is on supporting institutions in key areas including the continuing response – both short and long-term – to the challenges resulting from the consequences of Covid-19; the hugely important work needed in equality diversity and inclusion; to support leadership at all levels including those leading institutions and governors; and also to those who lead and deliver teaching.

“As the year unfolds, we aim to take the best of the online experience – which has actually strengthened our ability to connect people in terms of reach and crossing times zones – with the benefits of the face-to-face experience which so many people crave.

“I am really excited by next year’s work with the sector and our members. It’s been very rewarding to develop this portfolio, refining the professional development pathways for every career stage and building programmes, conferences and events dedicated to that support. We’re very much looking forward to working with colleagues to share and learn as we continue the work to sustain and enhance a first-class student experience for all.”
