Advance HE working in partnership with Thailand universities

05 Sep 2018 | Advance HE has been working on a national level teaching improvement project for the Office of the Higher Education Commission and ThaiPOD Network in Thailand.

Advance HE has been working on a national level teaching improvement project for the Office of the Higher Education Commission and ThaiPOD Network in Thailand.

Kathy Wright and Dr John Unsworth delivered module 1 of the Advance HE Certificate in Learning and Teaching (CLTHE) in Higher Education programme to 60 staff from 27 universities across Thailand at the beginning of August 2018. The participants in the programme are experienced leaders of teaching within their universities who intend to apply for Senior Fellowship of the HEA following the programme.

The CLTHE is a practical programme underpinned by modern theories of pedagogy, and encourages staff to make changes to their teaching practice during the programme. Module 1 – delivering learning and teaching in higher education – explored a range of learning theories and topics, including formative assessment, constructive alignment and reflective practice. It also included a range of activities to embed learning, as demonstrated by the fine straw towers and origami swans developed by the group!

Advance HE’s Kathy Wright said “It is a pleasure to work with such a dedicated group of teachers from across Thailand, and to enable exchange of practice between participants from a range of disciplines.”

Dr Bundit Thipakorn from the Office of the Higher Education Commission, Thailand, said: “It’s a pleasure to be working with Advance HE on this programme. The participants gained a strong understanding of the Professional Standards Framework and the expectations of a lecturer in higher education. We are looking forward to the second module.”
