CEO of The Brilliant Club, Anne-Marie Canning, shares her experience of supporting student transitions and progression, providing insights into The Brilliant Club’s approach to increasing the number of pupils from underrepresented backgrounds progressing to and succeeding at selective universities.
Anne-Marie touches upon the importance of cross-level student mentors who can demystify parts of the hidden curriculum and help to develop academic belonging. She also outlines the need to be flexible and deliberate in our approach to supporting student transition into and through higher education, as well as focusing on contextualised transitions that consider each individual student experience – now more than ever within the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Introducing The Brilliant Club’s new five-year strategy – Join the Club – Anne-Marie concludes with a challenge to the higher education sector to do more around the shared endeavour of supporting student success from school to university and utilise the power of community-based approaches.
