Today, we publish a new insight report, Securing educational excellence in higher education at a time of change, in partnership with Wonkhe.
The report is based on roundtable discussions involving 11 institutional leaders, 15 Advance HE Principal Fellows and three student representatives held in March 2025. It explores institutional interpretations of and responses to change, and asks what measures should be taken to secure educational excellence for what could be quite a different future.
A common theme across all three groups’ discussions was a sense that higher education is at a pivot point in its history, with changing perceptions of where value is located in the higher education experience driven by political, economic, social and technological change. The discussion identified five critical tensions higher education leaders must navigate in pursuing and sustaining educational excellence.
