Sustainability panel to be streamed live from Let’s Talk Value 2020

22 Jan 2020 | Advance HE A free webinar on sustainability in higher education institutions will be available for all on 11 February and you can join in the discussion on Twitter.

The live panel session on sustainability during the Let’s Talk Value (LTV) Conference 2020 on 11 Feb will be live streamed as a free webinar and accompanied by a live tweet chat, sponsored by ACCA.

As an Advance HE first, the panel will be broadcast live from the conference in order to reach as many people as possible, including those unable to attend the event in person.

The main topic of the session will be 'Integrating sustainability strategy to demonstrate wider value' and will be chaired by Phil McNaull from the University of Edinburgh. It will also feature remote panellist Professor Carol Adams, Durham University, joining from Australia. Other expert panellists are Sharon Machado, ACCA and Professor Eunice Simmons, Vice Chancellor at the University of Chester.

The panel will cover a number of issues including:

  • integrated reporting in the HE sector, UK and beyond
  • approaches to integrating sustainable development risks and opportunities into strategy and disclosures on the SDGs
  • recent developments and examples from outside the sector, where they are integrating sustainability into the wider organisational strategy
  • the integrated leadership required in the sector to incorporate sustainability and the key messages and challenges HE leaders face.

The live panel event is just one of a number of exciting features at LTV 2020 on 11 February, which will include a keynote speech from the President of Universities UK and Vice-Chancellor and President of Brunel University, Professor Julia Buckingham; panel sessions on Communicating Value and the Value of Higher Education and a range of other speakers from across the sector and the wider business community.

The conference will focus this year on HE institutions becoming more holistic and communicating their value, beyond financial, to stakeholders.

We will hear from some universities who are looking at ‘value’ using a multi-capitals approach such as integrated reporting (a principles-based framework), as a lens to help them navigate the changing expectations of different stakeholders and to better articulate and demonstrate the value they create for all stakeholders.

The sustainability panel session webinar will run for an hour from 11.20am during the conference and the live Twitter chat will run simultaneously. You can join in with the chat from 11am onwards on 11 Feb @AdvanceHE_Chat #letstalkvalue.
