Enhancing Teaching and Learning at Vaal University of Technology

Vaal University of Technology (VUT) have begun undertaking development of their programmes for accreditation by Advance HE. VUT aims to award staff HEA Fellowship upon completion of the programmes.

Advance HE consultant Professor Barbara Dexter is supporting the university to align their programmes to the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) for teaching and supporting learning. The PSF is a nationally-recognised framework for global benchmarking success within higher education teaching and learning support, and consists of a comprehensive set of professional standards and guidelines for everyone involved in teaching and supporting learning. VUT are aiming to accredit their "Licence To Teach" programme, which seeks to ensure new staff have training in teaching and can deliver a high quality student experience. 

VUT have a strategic objective to optimise teaching and learning to fulfil their vision to be a university that leads in innovative knowledge and quality technology education. The VUT team have strategic developments in place to support teaching and learning, and have created a new Teaching and Learning Policy to lay the foundations for the changes they wish to enact.

Dr Pauline Machika of VUT said,

“Developing the Licence to Teach and Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education provides an excellent opportunity for Vaal University of Technology to recognise Faculty who enhance their practice. Both staff and students will benefit as the programmes evolve.”

Ian Hall, Head of International Membership at Advance HE added, “It is a pleasure to work with the VUT team. They are committed to developing their staff through the teaching programmes they offer, and I look forward to their staff being recognised as HEA Fellows in the near future.”
