Dr Gerhard Kristandl, Associate Professor of Accounting and Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) at The University of Greenwich, is an innovator and change-maker. His role shapes teams in TEL, Academic and Learning Enhancement, and the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics within Greenwich Business School. Underpinning his work is a student-as-partners philosophy driving growth through pioneering new pedagogies based on cutting edge technologies.
Gerhard began his trajectory at Vienna University of Economics and Business in Austria, where he completed his PhD and served as a Teaching Fellow. His career pivoted into industry, where he worked as a Management and IT Consultant, leading partnerships with business and technology stakeholders. Returning to teaching, he joined Greenwich in 2010, dedicating his career to improving and empowering student trajectories by cultivating lifelong learning.
Gerhard’s teaching philosophy focuses on student-centred, technology-enriched learning experiences that inspire creativity. Resulting from his long-standing collaboration with SAP University Alliances, his innovative Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems module incorporates real-world business scenarios through TEL and is a key accomplishment from his tenure, which enhanced students’ employability - graduates from it have secured roles in Microsoft, Oracle, and Deloitte.
A leader in educational technology, Gerhard drives impact through his YouTube channel ‘DrGeeKay | Educator Tech with Gerhard Kristandl,’ providing tech tutorials to educators worldwide. As the Mentimeter Lead for Greenwich, he works within the TEL team to promote adoption of interactive teaching tools, fuelling engagement and elevating student experiences. A vocal advocate for diversity, he is leading initiatives like Women in Tech that have increased female graduates securing roles in the tech industry.
Gerhard’s impact extends beyond his institution. A sought-after speaker, he is regularly invited to lead workshops on Generative AI, influencing practices on a global scale. In addition to recognition from Advance HE, he has been honoured with institutional Teaching Awards, nominated foremost by students inspired by his capability, confidence and enthusiasm for accessible education.
