Bhavik Patel is a Professor in the School of Applied Sciences and Centre for Stress and Age-Related Disease at the University of Brighton. He co-chairs of the university’s Race Equality Steering Group, where he is focused on addressing racial inequalities and creating an inclusive environment at the university.  

Bhavik has on a regular basis developed and implemented innovative educational practices which focus on enhancing employability skills. Using a blended learning and work-integrated learning approach, he is able to provide realistic work environments on campus that develop vast array of vital employability skills. Bhavik is renowned for his work on developing novel educational practices for the delivery of analytical chemistry. He has regularly published the findings from studies conducted by students undertaking education-based research projects and has been regularly invited to present at international meetings.  

In 2021, he received the Royal Society of Chemistry Excellence in Higher Education Award for his design of innovative and effective analytical chemistry curriculums. Bhavik has widely disseminated and worked with colleagues in Brighton and further afield to support the implementation of his educational practices. His future work has focused on racial inequalities in higher education and is conducting studies to understand the barriers faced by our current minority ethnic students during their time in higher education.
