Professor Kamran Ali

Kamran has a proven track record in higher education for over 22 years which is supported by excellence in teaching, educational leadership and pedagogic research. He has provided sustained strategic leadership to enhance student learning. He also works with several influential national and international organisations and bodies responsible for education governance, policy-making and research. He has been recognised as a Principal Fellow for demonstrating a sustained record of effective strategic leadership in academic practice and academic development as a key contribution to high quality student learning. 

Kamran is a strong advocate of student empowerment and inclusivity and treats students as partners in higher education. He was responsible for the development and implementation of a spiralling oral surgery curriculum for a five-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme at a newly established Dental School in the South West of England. 

Kamran uses an evidence-informed approach and self-reflection to strive for excellence in teaching. As a clinical educator, he is passionate to support students in the development of their clinical reasoning and surgical skills. His dedication to transforming students’ learning experience has been recognised; he was voted the “Best Teacher” by the student parliament in 2014 and 2017.

He has published over 55 papers in leading peer reviewed journals and presented over 30 conference papers at national and international education meetings including several presentations as a key note speaker. He is also the editor of a textbook on physiology and authored 18 chapters in two separate dental textbooks.
