Dr Kevin Guyan

Job Title:
Head of Knowledge and Research

Kevin Guyan is an experienced mixed-methods researcher at Advance HE. He has led several high-profile equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) research projects on subjects including promotion and recruitment, bullying and harassment, and culture and wellbeing. Kevin recently led a major review of EDI interventions in UK research and innovation for UKRI. This review involved analysis of academic/grey literature and call for evidence responses to establish ‘What works?’ in regards to the effectiveness of EDI interventions and methods used to demonstrate impact. Findings from this review will help shape UKRI’s EDI strategy and wider work across higher education, research and innovation sectors. Kevin has also undertaken EDI audits of universities and research institutes across Europe. These projects involved the design, implementation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative components such as surveys, one-to-one interviews and focus groups. As part of his role at Advance HE, he has also delivered consultancy on monitoring and evaluating impact for university and college practitioners. Before starting at Advance HE in 2016, Kevin completed a PhD in history at University College London on masculinities and domestic space in mid-twentieth century Britain. He sits on the board of Evaluation Support Scotland and previously undertook desk-based research to demonstrate impact for UCL’s 2014 Research Excellence Framework submissions in the departments of Geography, Anthropology and School of Life and Medical Sciences.
