Rachel is Director of the Centre for Academic and Researcher Development and University Lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at The University of Manchester. She has over 25 years’ experience as a cancer researcher, people and organisational developer and equalities champion in Higher Education. 

As University gender equality and sexual orientation champion she has led institutional strategy, policy and practice developments while working with a network of inspirational colleagues to achieve significant equalities progress. She has been a vocal and passionate advocate for the diversification of the research and innovation workforce and a local and national research culture change which moves towards a system that rewards and values diverse researchers and inclusive research practice.

Rachel holds a Senior Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy and is an Institute of Leadership and Management accredited executive coach. She is a peer reviewer for Athena Swan, Advance HE National Teaching Fellowships and Collaborate Awards for Teaching Excellence.
