Dr Adeela ahmed Shafi MBE

Adeela is an Associate Professor in Education at the University of Gloucestershire. Adeela’s research is focused on the education of young people in secure custodial settings. She is currently leading 3 large Erasmus+ projects, Re-Engaging Young Offenders with Education & Learning (RENYO), Active Games for Change (AG4C) and Skills4Life, working with partners in ten European countries with the aim of developing policy and practice in this area.

Adeela work is also focused on equality, inclusion and diversity. She is Commissioner for Race Equality in Bristol as well as Vice-Chair of the Scrutiny of Police Powers in Avon & Somerset. She has led the work on the Advance HE Board Diversity Toolkit and has an established publishing profile, leading the REF (Research Excellence Framework) submission for Education at the University. Adeela received an MBE in 2020 for contributions to research and social justice.
