Sana graduated with BSc and MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from UoB in 1992 and 1997 respectively. She started working at UoB in 1994 as a graduate assistant and then continued as an assistant professor after her PhD until she retired in 2020. While at UoB, Sana was a member of several committees at Department, college and university levels pertaining to quality assurance and teaching development. She obtained a PhD in Photonics Engineering from RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia) in 2004. She continues to teach part time at UoB.
From 2012 to 2016, she chaired the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department. She developed the department quality assurance and enhancement practices and successfully led the department through program accreditation and reviews. Simultaneously, she was a member of the faculty development committee at UoB, where she led the design and delivery of HEA accredited faculty development provisions. She established the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL) at UoB in 2016 and served as its director until 2020.
Sana is PFHEA and has been an associate and consultant with Advance HE since 2015.
Sana is a member of IEEE, COMSOC, IEEE women and the Bahrain Society for children with behavior and communication difficulties.
