Gill developed a deep interest in the finances of the wider sector through supporting a number of Funding Body (HEFCE) initiatives such as the Financial Sustainability Strategy Group (FSSG), the TRAC Review Group, and the Sustainability Metrics Group (SMSG) - all of which impacted on the sector’s sustainability agenda.
From 2002 until she retired, Gill worked with the Leadership Foundation delivering the "Strategic Financial Management in HE" element for 31 of the cohorts of the Top Management Programme which she enjoyed very much. Gill remains committed to the HE Sector by undertaking consultancy work, mentoring senior staff in a number of Universities and working as an advisor to Accelerus Education which is developing models for reviewing the efficiency of teaching and supporting leadership teams in implementing change.
For Advance HE, she delivers on the Senior Women's Leadership Development and Strategic Finance Programmes for Advance HE and supports some bespoke projects too.
She is a non-executive director of Professional HE Services Ltd and has recently served on the Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee for the Commonwealth Games 2022. She is a trustee a pension scheme and a governor of a secondary school. Gill is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and was Global President of ACCA in 2007/8. Until October 2018 she was a member of the Science and Technologies Facilities Council - one of the UK Research Councils.
She was awarded an OBE for services to Higher Education in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2012.
