Julian Chaudhuri

Julian is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) at the University of Bath, a post he took up on 1st December 2021. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and a Professor of Biochemical & Biomedical Engineering.

Julian joined Bath from the University of Plymouth, where he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education & Student Experience) since 2017. During his time at Plymouth he was responsible for all aspects of education and experience for 18,500 students on campus, and another 6000 students studying Plymouth programmes in partnership with FE Colleges across Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.

From 2014 – 2017 Julian was the Executive Dean for the Faculty of Engineering & Informatics at the University of Bradford, and prior to that was an academic at the University of Bath for 20 years having held the posts of Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Engineering & Design. He was also the co-founder of Bath's Centre for Regenerative Medicine.

Julian took his undergraduate degree in Biochemical Engineering at UCL before a PhD at the University of Reading, and his research is in tissue engineering, at the interface between engineering, biological sciences and medicine. Specifically, his work has addressed the development of biodegradable biomaterials and bioreactor systems for stem cell culture and three-dimensional tissue engineering.
