Katherine is also a disabled person with a progressive neurological condition who uses an electric wheelchair, has mild visual impairment and struggles with anxiety and depression gremlins at times.

This drove her to create the role of Access Ambassador to UEA. In five years, her Access All Areas team have transformed their 1960’s concrete jungle into one of the most accessible campuses in the UK. She is determined to highlight the opportunity cost to universities and society of not ensuring that teaching and research is fully accessible.

Covid-19 has created significant risks for the disabled community. Her evidence-based guidelines have provided advice for universities, unions, schools, councils, theatres, etc. on how to ensure the maximum protection against Covid-19 whilst still maintaining access for the whole community – including disabled people. https://embed.org.uk/covid-19-reopening
