Having graduated from Bristol University, Anwen went on to complete a PhD study at Aberystwyth University in the area of national theatres in the comparative context of Western Europe. She publishes in both Welsh and English and is editor of the Welsh language, cross-disciplinary, scholarly e-journal, Gwerddon.

She has worked in HE for the past 27 years. Having been Head of the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University, she now holds the role of Pro Vice Chancellor for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. In this role, she has institutional responsibility for Welsh medium academic provision and research and leads on the gender strand of the University’s Diversity and Inclusion agenda.

Anwen is a trustee of the National Library of Wales, a Director of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and is delighted to be appointed as panel Chair for the assessment of Athena Swan applications across the HE sector.
